Cuphea ignea, which commonly known as Firecracker Bush or Cigar Plant, has dark green leaves with brilliant orange-red flowers that look like firecrackers as they bloom year-round. It grows to about 4 feet tall and wide, but can be pruned and controlled to a much smaller size. It is frost tender and requires full sun to partial shade. Attracts Hummingbirds to your garden and is hardy to 30° F.
Plant the Firecracker plant in moist, loamy soil in full sun to part shade. This plant may be planted inside of the pond, outside in your garden, or even in a pot. Just be sure to keep the soil evenly moist.
When planting in the pond, only the roots should be submerged in the water.
