This recent introduction from Mt. Cuba Center, our fellow native plant focused public garden in Delaware, this selection of Northern Blue Flag is absolutely stunning. Blade-like leaves emerge in spring, but unlike its predecessors, 'Purple Flame' leaves erupt in hues of deep, rich eggplant purple. As summer arrives, the leaves fade to a more typical green before throwing up dark stems topped with spectacular violet flowers. This unique selection is a perfect addition to any moist or wet area of your garden, or even along a pond edge.
