Blue Coats, Utricularia simplex, is a small, perennial, terrestrial bladderwort with a single bluish purple flower. Its small leaves are lance shaped. It prefers sandy peat that is constantly moist. Occasional flooding and filtered light is recommended. The bladders form in the soil, and catch microorganisms, like nematodes and ciliates. The flowers can be numerous, but quite small (<1/4"). It flowers throughout the year, and spreads nicely. Keep from freezing. It grows in the same habitat as and , and is a great companion to grow with it in a pot or terrarium.
